Corgi Diecast Toys were launched in 1956 as a new range of die cast toy model cars by Mettoy Playcraft LTD, the toy car company founded in 1936. These new toy cars were soon a huge hit with sales rocketing in the 60's and 70's. Production continued until 1983 when the business closed due to falling worldwide falling sales of this type of toy.
